A large throw worked in a basket weave pattern, 130 × 150 cm finished, with a garter stitch border and a crocheted edge. Knitted on 6 mm needles. Instant PDF download.
A throw is the most forgiving thing you can knit — no fit, no shaping, no sleeves to match — and the basket weave gives you just enough to follow to keep it interesting. Four knit stitches at each side form a border that stops the edges curling, and the whole piece is finished with an 8 mm crochet hook. At 130 × 150 cm it covers a double bed or a sofa, and it takes about 26 balls, so it is a project to live with rather than finish in a weekend.
Good to know
- Construction – cast on 98 stitches and work the four-row basket weave repeat, with 4 knit stitches at each side as an edging. Finished with a crocheted edge on an 8 mm hook.
- You will also need – 6 mm needles and an 8 mm crochet hook. The pattern is written for a cotton yarn (50 g): about 26 balls. Using another yarn? Anything that knits to 19 sts × 25 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch.
- In the download – a 6-page PDF with the basket weave written out row by row and tension tips. English only.
Happy Knitting!
