Meja was designed to be exactly what its name promises: a feel-good jumper. The body is plain stocking stitch, worked in one piece up to the armholes, then the front and back are finished separately and joined at the shoulders – the only seam you sew. The sleeves are picked up from the body and knitted downwards, so there is nothing to set in and nothing to match. I left the neckline without ribbing so it rolls softly on its own, and if you prefer a neater edge, one round of crochet finishes it. Knitted at a relaxed tension, the chunky yarn turns soft and drapey rather than stiff, and it grows quickly enough to keep a first jumper moving from one evening to the next.

Good to know

• Construction – the body is worked in one piece from the ribbed hem up to the armholes, then front and back are finished separately. Only the shoulders are sewn; the sleeves are picked up around the armholes and knitted down to ribbed cuffs. The neckline is left without ribbing – add one round of double crochet (US single crochet) with a 7 mm hook for a neater edge.
• You will also need – 5 mm and 6 mm needles, and a 7 mm crochet hook if you want to finish the neckline. Scandi Soft XL comes in packs of 5 balls: 1 pack for the four smallest sizes, 2 packs for the three largest. The tension is 13 sts × 17 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch, looser than the yarn's standard, so knit a tension square first. Using another yarn? You need approx. 720–1,260 m of a chunky yarn that knits to this tension.
