This is the pattern to start with if you have never knitted a garment. There is no shaping to keep track of and no collar to pick up — the edges are finished with a single round of crochet, which takes minutes and gives the top a clean line without any rib. Three to five balls of Scandi Cotton and it is done. It is a good one to knit twice: once plain for everyday, once in a brighter shade for summer.

Good to know

• Construction – front, back and short sleeves are knitted flat and sewn together, with the neckline and hem finished with a 6 mm crochet hook. The pattern includes an abbreviation key, so no prior experience is assumed.
• You will also need – 5 mm needles and a 6 mm crochet hook. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton (100 g): 3–5 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any 8 ply cotton that knits to 17 sts × 22 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch.
