Beginner-level tunic dress knitting pattern, worked in double moss stitch on 12 mm needles in Scandi Cotton XL. Five sizes, S to XXL, width 45–61 cm. The front and back are worked separately and sewn together. Instant PDF download.
This is a really easy and quick pattern to whip up a dress or a short tunic, and it is a good place to start if you are new to knitting. I have written it in double moss stitch, but it will look great in any stitch you like.
With 12 mm needles the fabric grows quickly. The front and the back are worked separately, with a little shaping for the waist and the shoulders, and the side seams are sewn only part of the way up so the armholes stay open. There is no sleeve to knit.
Because the needles are so big, tension matters more than usual. Please make a tension square first, as the guide in the pattern explains. There is also a short tutorial for double moss stitch in the download.
Good to know:
Construction - front and back are worked separately from the bottom up, with waist and shoulder shaping, then sewn together with the armholes left open. No sleeves
Substituting yarn - any yarn that knits to 10 sts x 11 rows over 10 cm in double moss stitch
Happy Knitting!
