An easy short-sleeved summer t-shirt knitted in double moss stitch, with a plain round neck and a straight body. Knitted on 5 mm needles in Scandi Cotton. Six sizes fitting bust 86–138 cm. Instant PDF download in English and Swedish.
Embla is the pattern people come back to. There is no shaping to speak of — front and back are straight rectangles until the armholes — so the whole thing is carried by the double moss stitch, which gives cotton a bit of body and stops the fabric hanging limp. It takes three to five balls and a couple of evenings, which is why it works so well as a first garment, and why it turns up in every colour of the yarn card. Knit it in stocking stitch or garter instead and it works just as well.
Good to know
- Construction – front, back and short sleeves are knitted flat in double moss stitch and sewn together, with 4 stitches cast off at each side for the armhole.
- You will also need – 5 mm needles. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton (100 g): 3–5 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any 8 ply cotton that knits to 17 sts × 22 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch.
- In the download – a 7-page PDF with the pattern in English and Swedish, a guide to double moss stitch and tension tips.
Happy Knitting!
