Drop stitch is what makes this one so quick — the long, open rows grow fast on 8 mm needles and forgive an uneven tension, which is why the top hangs softly rather than sitting stiff. Front and back are the same shape, widening gently from the underarm down, with four rows of garter stitch marking the armhole and 5 cm left open at each side hem. In chunky cotton it works over a swimsuit and just as well over a vest top with jeans.

Good to know

• Construction – front and back are knitted flat in drop stitch and sewn at the shoulders and sides, with 5 cm left open at each side hem for the vents. Garter stitch borders at the armholes and neckline.
• You will also need – 8 mm needles. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton XL (200 g): 2–3 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any chunky cotton that knits to 13 sts × 15 rows over 10 cm.
