A loose crochet jumper with a front built from granny squares and a plain crocheted back, worked with 6 and 7 mm hooks in Scandi Cotton. Five sizes, S to XXL. Instant PDF download.
The granny squares are the whole idea here. You make them first, on the smaller hook, join them into a panel for the front, and everything after that is straight rows of single and half double crochet — so the fiddly part is done while you are still fresh, and the rest is the kind of crochet you can do in front of a film. The shoulders are seamed with a wide 24 cm neck opening left in the middle, which is what gives the jumper its easy, off-duty shape. It looks completely different depending on whether you keep to one colour or use up scraps in the squares.
Good to know
- Construction – front panel of joined granny squares, back and sleeves crocheted in rows, all sewn together. Shoulder seams are worked from each side, leaving a 24 cm neck opening. US crochet terms, with UK equivalents given.
- You will also need – 6 mm and 7 mm crochet hooks. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton (100 g): 4–6 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any 8 ply cotton that works to 13 sc × 15 rows over 10 cm.
- In the download – a 7-page PDF with the granny square chart, a US–UK abbreviation key and tension tips. English only.
