A boxy knitted T-shirt with a stepped rib texture on the front, a garter stitch back and grown-on sleeves, knitted in cotton on 4 mm needles. Six sizes, bust 102–152 cm. Instant PDF download in English and Swedish.
Tuva is the top I knit when I want something that looks considered but is calm to make. The texture on the front builds itself: each row adds one more stitch to the rib, so the pattern grows across the fabric in steps and you never need a chart. The back is plain garter stitch. The sleeves are cast on as part of the body and finished with a folded garter edge, so there is nothing to set in. Small vents at the sides and sloped shoulders let it hang straight and easy – over jeans, a skirt or a swimsuit on the way to the beach.
Good to know
- Construction – back and front are knitted flat and sewn together – the front in the stepped rib pattern, the back in garter stitch. The sleeve edges are cast on at the sides and folded back in garter stitch, and the side seams stop 8 cm from the hem to leave vents.
- You will also need – 4 mm needles and a short circular needle for the neckband. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton (100 g balls): 3–6 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any cotton that knits to 22 sts × 26 rows over 10 cm will work.
- In the download – an 8-page PDF with the full pattern in English and Swedish, the Scandi Cotton colour card and a guide to tension squares and basic stitches.
Happy Knitting!
