Lace on 8 mm needles is a different thing to lace on 3 mm — the openwork is big and graphic rather than delicate, and the whole jumper is finished in a handful of evenings. The pattern uses two twisted stitches, worked into the back and front of the next stitch so they cross without a cable needle, and once you have done a couple of repeats your hands take over. The sleeves are gathered into the cuff for a proper balloon shape, and the body is straight enough to wear over anything.

Good to know

• Construction – worked bottom up in two pieces, front and back, and sewn together. 7 mm needles for the rib, 8 mm for the body. Two special twisted stitches are explained in the PDF; no cable needle required.
• You will also need – 8 mm and 7 mm needles. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton XL (200 g): 3–5 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any chunky yarn that knits to 13 sts × 15 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch.
