The bubble stitch is what carries this one — a raised, dimpled surface that gives a plain sleeveless shape real presence, and reads completely differently in a pale ecru than it does in black. The 8 cm of rib at the hem is deliberately deep so the vest sits rather than rides up, and the twenty stitches decreased above it are what let the bubbles sit at the right density. Seven sizes is the widest range of any pattern here, from 96 to 164 cm.

Good to know

• Construction – front and back are knitted flat and sewn at the shoulders and sides. 2×2 rib for 8 cm at the hem, then the bubble pattern to the shoulder. Length 52–70 cm depending on size.
• You will also need – 4.5 mm needles, a yarn needle and a tape measure. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton (100 g). Using another yarn? Any 8 ply that knits to 21 sts × 26 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch.
