Garter stitch all the way through is what makes this one so restful to knit — no pattern to keep track of, no right side to remember. The shape comes from decreasing four stitches evenly across a row on the way down to the waist and increasing them back on the way up, so the top follows the body without any darts or side shaping to sew. The neat little roll neck finishes it off. It is the top you wear under a jacket in the city and on its own the moment the sun comes out.

Good to know

• Construction – front, back and short sleeves are knitted flat in garter stitch and sewn together, with the turtle neck picked up and worked last.
• You will also need – 5 mm needles. The pattern is written for Scandi Cotton (100 g): 3–6 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any 8 ply cotton that knits to 20 sts × 28 rows over 10 cm in garter stitch.
