An easy crochet sweater made in just two pieces, with grown-on sleeves and a V-neck, worked in double crochet (UK terms) on a 5 mm hook. Written for beginners. Six sizes, bust 84–146 cm. Instant PDF download in English and Swedish.
If you have wanted to crochet a jumper rather than a blanket, Maja is the place to start. It is made in two pieces, back and front, and the sleeves grow out of each piece as you go, so there is nothing to set in. Every row is the same stitch – double crochet – and the only shaping is the sleeve increases and the V at the neck. Sew the shoulders and sides, add one round of crochet around the neck and cuffs with a slightly bigger hook, and it is done. In cotton it is light and soft, the kind of sweater you pull on over a summer dress or wear with white trousers by the sea.
Good to know
- Construction – back and front are crocheted flat from the hem up, with the sleeves added at the sides as you go. Sew the shoulders, sides and underarms, then finish the neck and sleeves with one row of double crochet on a 6 mm hook. UK crochet terms (UK double crochet = US single crochet).
- You will also need – 5 mm and 6 mm crochet hooks. The pattern is written for Anette Eriksson cotton in 100 g balls: 4–7 balls depending on size. Using another yarn? Any cotton that works to 16 sts × 16 rows of double crochet over 10 cm.
- In the download – an 8-page PDF with the pattern in English and Swedish, a colour card and a tension guide.
Happy Knitting!
